In the context of the JAHCAI activities I am especially interested in the development of the human-machine interfaces, especially those designed to support the functioning of disabled, eg. blinds. I am also interested in the agency in the human-robot interactions as well as the development of the standards of the video compression inspired by psychological research.

Bio

Michał Wierzchoń is the Professor of Social Sciences. He currently serves as the director of the Centre for Brain Research (brain.uj.edu.pl), director of the International PhD Programme in Cognitive Neuroscience (cognes.psychologia.uj.edu.pl) and the Vice-Dean for the Scientific Affairs of the Faculty of Philosophy. He is also a founder and the head of Consciousness Lab (C Lab, c-lab.pl). His research focuses on the neuronal and cognitive mechanisms of consciousness, especially conscious perception, memory and self-awareness.

He uses various research methods, such as behavioural, neuroimaging, qualitative studies, and computational modelling. He has published two books and dozens of other publications, most of them internationally (Google Scholar profile: https://scholar.google.pl/citations?view_op=list_works&hl=pl&authuser=1&user=Vge15BIAAAAJ).

He was awarded with multiple grants, including four large-scale grants from the National Science Centre, Poland (NCN). He is also a Vice-Chair of the COST CA18106 Action and serves as a Polish representative in the Action Management Committee.   He received multiple prestigious awards, including NCN Award (2019), Polish Academy of Sciences Andrzej Malewski Award (2014). He is a Fellow Member of the Psychonomic Society and a member of multiple other international societies. He was an elected member of the Executive Committee of the European Society for Cognitive Psychology (2015-2018). He also served as the secretary of the Committee (2010-2017). He has reviewed the projects proposals for the NCN, the National Centre for Research and Development, the National Agency of the Academic Exchange and the EU (MCSA). He was involved in the evaluation of the scientific units in Italy and Portugal.
